Sierra Nevada has opened on the first day of the year 2023 the slope of El Rio, with the Granada winter resort now has 30 skiable kilometers and almost all the slope of the domain, the 1,100 meters that separate the upper station of the Zayas ski lift (near the Veleta peak) and the urbanization of Pradollano.
The opening of the El Río slope has been possible thanks to the production of snow when the temperature and humidity conditions have allowed it and to the contribution of snow from other areas to complete the last meters of the route to Pradollano.
With this, Sierra Nevada not only incorporates one of its most emblematic slopes, but also makes it possible to ski down from the Borreguiles ski area to the accommodation establishments or the Pradollano car park lot. Until now, this connection was made through the Al Ándalus and Borreguiles cable cars.
With the 30 kilometers opened this January 1, the station reaches 30 skiable kilometers and 34 slopes in four of the six ski areas of Sierra Nevada, although the opening of Loma de Dílar is reduced to the Cecilio slope and a mini snowpark installed next to the radio telescope.
Equally or more relevant than the kilometers opened are the 1,100 meters of vertical drop that Sierra Nevada offers from now on. It will reach the maximum vertical drop (1,200) when the Laguna chairlift can be put into service. In the Laguna area, the Trucha slope is partially open, with access from the Zayas chairlift and exit from the Laguna pass.
The opening of El Río will also make it possible for the Three Wise Men to ski down this slope on the evening of January 5.
Fair but possible deadlines for the new gondola lift that should connect the village of Benasque with the ski slopes of Cerler. If all goes well, the manufacturer will be awarded this summer, and in autumn they will start working for December 2025 to be able to release it.
