After a very complicated winter in terms of scarce snowfall, now things have become difficult in some ski resorts because of the opposite: excessive snowfall. And also with the bad luck that this extraordinary episode of precipitation in the form of snow has coincided on the weekend.
And it is that at the time of more influx of skiers of the week, ski resorts such as Astún had to remain closed due to risk of avalanches, while its neighbor Candanchú could only open the lifts of its safety zone. In the Balneario de Panticosa, the access road had to be closed from Saturday to Monday with the accommodation practically at 100%.
On February 28th Candanchú already showed this aspect
Nevertheless, although many people could not enjoy the snowfall due to the complications in the access, it will serve to guarantee an Easter Week as one of those that are not remembered in years. If the weather calms down, it will be possible to enjoy epic days with almost all the skiable domains open.
Many ski resorts will probably extend the season once again. Something that no one has officially informed, but that is traditionally done when there is a lot of snow on the slopes. It will then depend on the influx of skiers, and the contracts and availability of staff, to try to open again a few more days.
In the meantime, these are the maximum thicknesses reported by the ski resorts while waiting for these data to rise again with the snowfalls that are forecast again for the end of this week. In Spain, all of them are located in the Pyrenees.

In spite of the extraordinary amount of snow, it is still not possible to open all the skiable domain, since in many cases before it is necessary to secure zones to avoid avalanches, and in other cases it is necessary to wait to be able to enter to tread with guarantees. It should be remembered that freshly fallen snow is usually very unstable.

Anyway, as Alurte explains today, the snow is beginning to stabilize thanks to the humidity that is affecting middle and low altitudes. Even so, remember that in high areas, from 2000 altitudes onwards, you can find slabs caused by the wind,
"The snow continues to be unstable, especially at high altitudes. Although the probability of avalanches is decreasing, it is still necessary to maintain special caution if we open large and more complex terrain. Tomorrow, poor visibility may make it difficult to assess the snow and choose the safest route".
Currently the risk of avalanches in the Aragon Pyrenees is 3 out of 5 in the Aragon Valley and Tena, while the rest is normal.
Fair but possible deadlines for the new gondola lift that should connect the village of Benasque with the ski slopes of Cerler. If all goes well, the manufacturer will be awarded this summer, and in autumn they will start working for December 2025 to be able to release it.
