For ski tourism, this has been a "Puente de la Purísima", as it is called in Catalonia to the Immaculate Conception. And all the Catalan resorts (except Tavascan) have opened along with those of Andorra, and even that of the Neiges Catalanes (except Formiguères).
Therefore, in great part of the tourist ski area of Catalonia has shown generalized satisfaction and fulfilled expectations in this Bridge. Thanks to the snowfalls of the last days and the winter weather, the Pyrenees and Central Catalonia have been the most benefited areas with occupations that have hovered between 80%-90% in hotels, campsites and rural tourism houses. In fact, the Montsec Astronomical Park has beaten its attendance record for these dates in its 15 years of life.
On the coast, the Puríssima long weekend coincides with the low season (only one in five establishments is still open) and the figures have been lower. However, the tourism ski area speaks of a 70%-80% occupancy in the province of Tarragona and 60% in the Ebro Delta.
The Lleida Pyrenees put an end this Sunday to the Purisima long weekend with an occupancy rate of 85% in hotels and campsites and 90% in rural tourism. Also, according to the vice president of the Tourist Board of the Diputación de Lleida, Juan Antonio Serrano,
"Second homes were also very busy. That is why the commerce and catering ski area are also satisfied".
The ski resorts have sold about 62,000 Ski Passes , 50,000 of them in the ski resort of Baqueira Beret and the rest have been divided between Boí Taüll, Port Ainé, Port del Comte and Espot Esquí. The visitor profile par excellence of these dates is Catalan, and from other areas of the country such as the Basque Country, Madrid or Valencia. On the other hand, as it is not a holiday in France, the presence of our neighbors has hardly been noticed.
The skiing and tourist activity during this five-day long weekend of the Constitution and the Purisima has generated in Lleida an impact of more than 17 million euros, according to the first calculations of the Tourist Board of the Provincial Council. Last year it was 20 million, but it must be taken into account that the macro-bridge chained nine holidays.
Likewise, there has also been affluence in other tourist areas of the demarcation, as in the Astronomical Park of Montsec de Àger (Noguera), which has beaten its attendance record in a bridge of the Puríssima in its 15 years of life.
In the counties of Girona, the Puríssima long weekend has allowed to fill mainly the destinations of the Pyrenees thanks to the fact that its 4 ski resorts were open, and also to fill the inland towns. On the other hand, as usual, the coastal towns have been less popular among the visitors' choices.
One of the great attractions of these days have been the ski resorts: both Vallter and La Molina have been satisfied with the employment and the sale of Ski Passes during these long weekend days. Although it is still early to close the accounts, both resorts assure that they have received "a volume of visitors similar to last year".
The ski resorts have been able to expand and consolidate their skiing offer during the Purísima long weekend. Although at first it was announced openings under minimum, later the enormous effort of the mountain staff achieved miracles every morning, and although there was practically no snow, it has been possible to open a good amount of kilometers, with the exception of the winter resorts of Ripollés.
The snow report for Saturday, December 9 in Catalonia was as follows:
Baqueira Beret: 62 km
Masella: 27 km
La Molina: 14 km
Boí Taull: 11 km
Port Ainé: 10 km
Espot: 4 km
Port del Comte: 2 km
Vallter: 1 km
Vall de Núria: 1 km
