The squall front announced for the end of the week has already entered Galicia, has left its first snowfall in the mountains of Asturias and Leon, and continues its way to the east of the peninsula. The ski resorts of the Pyrenees have put their hopes in this front that not only can leave snow, but also meteorological windows to be able to start up the production equipment.
Since a few days ago, the resorts have already started tosnow production systems in operation, but since Friday night the production is more generalized. El Heraldo reports that Cerler started up especially at low altitudes and that in Benasque, even lower down, temperatures reached almost -6ºC.
This morning snow was already being produced in Cerler.
It must be remembered that it is not possible to start up all the cannons at the same time, as they depend on the power of the machine room. That is why the snow production staff decides which axes of the ski resort have priority. In general, they usually start with the lowest and commercial lines and then change ski areas and go up the elevations, as long as the wind does not blow too much at higher altitudes.
The lack of snow in this anomalous ski season means that many ski resorts have to start practically like the days before the Immaculate Conception or Christmas.
Two days of snow
The economic models of specialized portals, as well as those handled by the media confirm the arrival of this front of snowfall and even warn that could be abundant in some places. However, it is a situation that will last two days, three at the most.
And it is that from Tuesday the skies are expected to clear again and temperatures rise somewhat, although somewhat more normalized for this time of year.
In any case, for Tuesday there will still be scattered showers in the northwest quadrant. What we have been seeing these weeks will be repeated, with half of the peninsula with water above the reservoir line and rivers overflowing, while in the east there is still a worrying water deficit.
For the rest of the peninsula, good weather will be the general tone to impose the anticyclone, with little cloudy or clear skies except for the west of Asturias, northwest of Castilla y León and western Central system, where according to the Aemet could come another front of precipitation from the west.
Fair but possible deadlines for the new gondola lift that should connect the village of Benasque with the ski slopes of Cerler. If all goes well, the manufacturer will be awarded this summer, and in autumn they will start working for December 2025 to be able to release it.
