In the lower area of Béjar is located the area for beginners.
Luis Francisco Martín, mayor of Béjar (Salamaca), assured yesterday Tuesday in a press conference, that soon they will have a meeting of the Follow-up Commission to go ahead with the new project for the ski resort of Sierra de Béjar, which proposes a subsidy of three million euros from the Junta de Castilla y León, also through the Territorial Program of Fomento de Béjar. of Sierra de Béjar, which proposes a subsidy of three million euros from the Junta de Castilla y León, also through the Territorial Development Program, together with contributions from the Provincial Council (1 million) and the City Council(500.500,000).
"The truth is that this Wednesday we have a meeting of the instructoring committee for the four and a half million that were not spent last term, because projects that could not be carried out were raised.
Now we are in a preliminary project that is reasonable, that is logical, that is viable, that we have the technical reports of the Environment so that they can be put in Sierra de Béjar.
La Covatilla is a protected area and therefore the project is evaluated, we want to present it to the Junta de Castilla y León before the end of March so that it can be included in the budgets of this new Junta de Castilla y León, tender it and award it so that in the 2024-2025 season, these facilities in the region will be more comfortable with an investment of four and a half million".
Four-people chairlift in Sierra de Béjar
Since the Sierra de Béjar - La Covatilla ski resort was inaugurated in 2001, it has received practically no major investment. In 2018 the Junta de Castila y León approved a budget item of 3 million euros to modernize the facilities to which the Diputación de Salamanca and the City Council joined. It had to spend them before 2022, but the arrival of the COVID pandemic forced to stop everything.
3,000,000 -Junta de Castilla y León: 3,000,000 €
3,000,000 -Diputación de Salamanca: 1,000,000 €
1,000,000 -Salamanca City Council: 500,000 €
An extension was granted until 2023, but with the municipal elections in between, nothing has been done. Now there has been a change of political color in the City Council. The mayor assures that the time has come to execute these investments. He has four years of legislature ahead of him.
The project mainly contemplates expanding the snow production system, now very focused on the beginners' area, located in the lower area of the ski resort.
It also proposes the installation of three new ski lifts of 380 m. (on the advice of the engineers in charge of drafting the project) each one, which would be located in La Covatilla, Las Mulas and the last one in the upper part of the chairlift exit, with the aim of making better use of the high altitudes of the ski resort.
And it is precisely for this same purpose that they want to move the beginners' area to a higher altitude, while the area now occupied by the beginners' area would be converted into a family snow park.
The Sierra de Béjar cafeteria has a terrace with spectacular panoramic views.
Fair but possible deadlines for the new gondola lift that should connect the village of Benasque with the ski slopes of Cerler. If all goes well, the manufacturer will be awarded this summer, and in autumn they will start working for December 2025 to be able to release it.
and be the first to receive great ski deals!
