Sierra Nevada Ski Resort is located in the south of Spain and is known for being the most snow-sure ski resort in Spain. It is the southernmost ski resort in Europe and the highest on the peninsula, plus it's super close to Granada and Costa del Sol . But, above all, it is a first-rate destination for ski lovers.

What's so great about skiing in Sierra Nevada?

Sierra Nevada ski resort has Mulhacén , a 3,718-metre peak that stands as the highest in the Iberian Peninsula and the second in Spain, after Mount Teide. But what makes it so great is its proximity to the coast.

Also, the location is not the only thing that makes Sierra Nevada different. The Granada ski resort has a total of 105 kilometres124 ski slopes (20 green, 42 blue, 55 red and 7 black) and 7 snowparks. Which makes it one of the Spanish ski resorts with the most kilometres for skiing, the third most extensive in all of Spain, after Baqueira Beret and Formigal Panticosa.

In addition, it is open for many months, usually from November to May, thanks to a climate of contrasts that allows you to enjoy mild temperatures, long-lasting snow and many hours of sunshine a year. Its mountainous complex, with important botanical values and high mountain lagoons, was declared a National Park and biosphere reserve by UNESCO . As you can imagine, its landscapes are fascinating.

It is one of the resorts where you can practice skiing at night.  You can go night skiing once a week and enjoy 6 km of illuminated slopes. You can go skiing and to the beach on the same day, how crazy is that? The ski resort is also planning on building a cable car that connects Granada with Sierra Nevada to avoid driving your car to the ski resort.

A very interesting fact is that on the clearest days you can see Africa from its summit, as this ski resort allows you to see the mountains of Morocco even though they are 250 kilometres apart.

When is it a good time to ski in Sierra Nevada?

This Spanish Ski Resort is known for being one of the ski resorts in Europe to be open the longest. Its ski season usually runs from late November until early May. The best time to go skiing in Sierra Nevada is usually in March and April as it's the time of the year where you have optimal snow conditions and great weather. This time of the year is also much less crowded which means there's more availability and is also a great time to book a cheap ski holiday with friends and family.

We recommend you to check the Sierra Nevada Webcams before heading to our ski deals where you will also find an updated snow report as well as customer reviews. On our Sierra Nevada customer reviews you will find all kinds of feedback from different types of ski levels and different types of customers. As for the scoring, our customers have rated the ski slopes, lifts, bars and restaurants. What is there to do in Sierra Nevada?

If you want to get the most out of your stay, Sierra Nevada welcomes a wide range of leisure and après ski activities. You'll find recreational areas, snow slides, archery, snowshoe excursions, and even ice skating. Likewise, mini Olympics are created in the snow and guided routes in which the wonderful enclave of the Sierra Nevada National Park is taught. And when the sun goes down, you can continue skiing until ten at night with the night pass.

Hospitality, comfort, quality ... In Sierra Nevada there are hotels and apartments of all kinds that add charm to the facilities and offer a pleasant stay to all types of public. At the same time, the ski resort has numerous restaurants with a very diverse gastronomy , from the municipality's own, to the international and fast. We also recommend going through the Montebajo Sports Club, a centre with areas for relaxation and body care.

To all this, you can save some time to visit Granada and stroll through the streets of Albaicín and Sacromonte, or marvel at the architectural jewel that is the Alhambra.

How to get to Sierra Nevada

As you may already know, on Esquiades.com we do not include flights in our ski holidays so, if you need to catch a flight, we recommend you to fly into Granada, which is a 40-minute drive to the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort or, you can also fly into Malaga, which is about 2 hours from the resort. Both airports offer regular bus service to the ski resort. If you're thinking of renting a car, we can also provide this service from anywhere in Spain.

These past few years self-driving ski holidays have become very popular for many reasons: your ski holiday will be much cheaper, you can make it to the ski resort at your own pace and you don't have to worry about baggage allowance ;)
