Imagine skiing to the foot of the magnificent Matterhorn, one of the most iconic peaks in the Swiss Alps, recognizable by a certain triangular-shaped bar of chocolate, then skiing down the slopes of Cervinia for authentic Italian cuisine and breathtaking views of the mountains that surround it. This is what makes Cervinia a truly unique and unforgettable ski holiday destination.
Zermatt - Cervinia is a unique cross-border ski resort, located right on the border between Switzerland and Italy, at the foot of the world-famous Matterhorn - or Cervino as the Italians call it, and offering an astonishing ski resort with incredible views and top-notch slopes for all types of skiers.
On the Swiss side, the tracks stretch from Rothorn to Hohtälli, Gornergrat and the Klein Matterhorn, which reaches 3,883 metres . On the Italian side , the slopes are divided between the Colle del Theodulo, Cime Bianchi, Plan Maison and Salette. In addition, it is possible to ski all year round on the Theodul Glacier. In total, 322 km of slopes await skiers, with a drop of 2,337 m (Base 1,562 m - Mountain 3,899 m).
Besides its stunning views and access to the Swiss slopes, there are numerous reasons why Cervinia is one of the best ski destinations. One of the key factors is the high altitude of the station. With slopes that reach 3,883 meters above sea level, Cervinia is one of the highest ski resorts in Europe. This means you're guaranteed excellent snow conditions all season long, with a long ski season often running from November to May.
In addition to the excellent snow conditions, the slopes are well-prepared and maintained. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced skier, in Cervinia you will find a wide variety of slopes to suit your level, from gentle slopes for beginners to challenging black slopes. And if you are looking for an extra thrill, Cervinia also offers off-piste skiing and heli-skiing , providing a truly unique and unforgettable skiing experience.
Cervinia is also known for its family atmosphere, with a wide variety of ski schools and childcare services available for children of all ages. Ski lessons in Cervinia are given by experienced instructors who specialize in teaching children, ensuring that children of all ages and levels can learn to ski in a safe and supportive environment. And when children need a break from skiing, there are plenty of other activities available, including ice skating, snowshoeing, and even sledding.
Lastly, one of the main advantages of skiing in Cervinia is its convenient location and excellent transportation options. Zermatt is located in the canton of Valais, southwestern Switzerland, and is a car-free ski resort, meaning that access to the resort is restricted to electric vehicles or snowmobiles.
He parks the car in Täsch in a car park lot and gets on the train that goes to the ski resort. Modern shuttle trains leave for Zermatt every 20 minutes and the journey takes 12 minutes.
Once there, the resort has everything you need to enjoy a comfortable and enjoyable ski holiday: a wide range of accommodation, excellent restaurants and bars, and endless après-ski activities that will keep you entertained long after the slopes are closed
Cervinia - Zermatt offers a wide variety of slopes for all levels, with a total of 322 skiable kilometers.
Our favourite slopes are: Fluhalp-Gant (Nr. 19) a wonderful alpine slope with panoramic views over the Findel Glacier, Aussichtspiste Matterhorn (Nr. 69) the ideal slope to see the spectacular Matterhorn up close and Furgg-Furi (Nr. 62) probably the most difficult track in the entire ski resort.
The ski resort has state-of-the-art lifts on both the Swiss and Italian sides of the border:
From Zermatt, visitors can take the fast Matterhorn Express gondola to the Klein Matterhorn Ski Area in just four flights. The Gornergrat Cog Railway also offers a scenic 30-minute ride from Zermatt Train Station to the Gornergrat. Another option is the Sunnegga Funicular. Once at the ski resort, you will find modern chairlifts as well as the highest 3-cable gondola in the world, the Matterhorn Glacier. On Theodul Glacier, button lifts are the main option, while long cable cars complete the offer.
In Breuil-Cervinia, the ski lifts start in the village itself and modern chairlifts and gondolas predominate. In Valtournenche, guests can take a gondola lift to the ski area, and the chair lifts allow repeat runs.
