The Font Romeu Ski Resort is one a skiing reference in the South of France. The skiing domain is combined with the Pyrénées 2000 domain, in order that both resorts have 44 alpine skiable kilometres and 111 kilometres to practise nordic skiing. All of the slopes are located in the French Cerdanya, which is surrounded by great views and mountains. This resort is ideal for families because of it's nice atmosphere.
The facilities of the resort have 22 marked circuits, 41 ski tracks, 504 snow cannons, 23 ski lifts, 1 snowpark, 1 gondola, 1 leisure area, 2 sledge routes, 4 skiing schools and 1 biathlon stadium.
The facilities are what really charactherise Font Romeu, especially for families. Different areas inside the resort are great to learn how to ski with kids. For children, the resort has available a nursery for kids that are at least 18 months old.
Nevertheless. the best about the resort is the 20 hectare area where you can enjoy the slopes and the descents with a lot of trees and great views, especially aimed for kids and beginners. In conclusion, at the Font Romeu Pyrénées 2000 resort you will be able to enjoy nature with large areas with authentic character.
If you are a snowboarder, the resort counts with one of the best snowparks in Europe, that has been remodelled in order to host different international sport events. In fact, in December 2017, the complex celebrated the Freestyle World Cup at their facilities.
Regarding the gastronomy of the area, we recommend to go to Les Airelles, right at the heart of the resort. There you will find a restaurant with the same name, where you can enter with your skis on! The facilities of the building are also adapted to children's necessities. There are daily menus that go from 8€ to 12€. Great value options.
Apart from the advantages for beginners and children, Font Romeu offers other alternatives to skiing to let everybody enjoy the snow. One of the favourite is going for a snowshoe excursion. The fact is that Font Romeu has 11 circuits for this purpose. The most common route is around 4 km long with an easy climb that goes from La Pleta de Farnés to the Coll del Pam viewpoint.
Another experience that people enjoy is Snake Gliss, a strange form of descending in a sledge. This practise is on a couple of platforms that put together, in order to descend, so it looks like that you are descending the slopes on some kind of snake.
There are many options to go for, for all tastes and preferences, because of the fact that in the area it is possible do to many cultural visits. For example, in Odeillo you can see the Forn Solar parabolic, the first solar oven with industrial capacity built in the world which is registered as a Historical Monument as from 2009.
We also recommend discovering the territory and specially the villas that have been declared Humanity Heritage by the UNESCO. It's worth exploring Montlluís and Vilafranca de Conflent. Definitely, Font Romeu is a resort with sunny slopes and facilities to enjoy the snow in a great way. The visits that can be done in the area will make you enjoy a great weekend.
