While Zermatt stands out as one of the world's most renowned ski resorts, it is just one of many impressive destinations for winter enthusiasts in Switzerland.

To most advanced skiers, the key to a satisfying ski resort includes long, steep black runs and thrilling off- slope adventures. Our ski experts have curated a list of the best ski resorts for advanced skiers. Europe and beyond offer excellent conditions for advanced skiers, and if you're seeking a challenging ski holiday in Switzerland, you've come to the right place.

Switzerland is a paradise for advanced skiers, offering some of the most challenging and thrilling ski resorts in the world. With a variety of difficult slopes, thrilling black runs, and extensive off- slope opportunities, the Swiss Alps are an adventure playground for those seeking to push their limits. Here’s a closer look at some of the best ski resorts in Switzerland for advanced skiers.

Verbier, Les 4 Vallées

Located in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Verbier is a haven for seasoned skiers seeking new adventures, famous for its extreme off- slope terrain and ideal for powder enthusiasts. With over 400km of slopes and 82 lifts, Verbier offers an array of challenging red slopes and black slopes that will satisfy any expert skier.

The resort peaks at Mont Fort (3,330 meters), providing breathtaking views of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc on clear days. Skiing in Verbier is a free rider haven and a paradise for deep-snow skiing, with several annual competitions highlighting its challenging slopes.

Verbier is a top destination for advanced skiers, however, proficient intermediate skiers will also thoroughly enjoy their time here. A glance at the slope map reveals a network of red runs sprawling across all four valleys. To maximize your experience, consider hiring a guide or trying heli-skiing.

Grindelwald Mürren, Jungfrau Region

Jungfrau ski region, formed by the ski resorts of Grindelwald-Wengen, Grindelwald-First, Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen and Mürren-Schilthorn offers dramatically scenic intermediate skiing that is hard to beat, with the majestic peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau dominating the landscape and ensuring an unforgettable ski holiday in Switzerland

Grindelwald, located in the Bernese Oberland region, is a large resort that boasts 213 km of slopes and 33 lifts. Advanced skiers will find plenty of challenges with numerous black runs and steep terrain. Mürren on the other hand, offers 51 km of slopes served by 16 lifts, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in quality and challenge.

It's the ultimate freeride destination in the Jungfrau region. The area surrounding Piz Gloria boasts numerous freeride runs. Additionally, there are plentiful powder routes directly below the north face of the Eiger, though we strongly recommend enlisting the assistance of a local guide.

In addition, the steep black slopes in Schilthorn (2,970 meters) are legendary, providing a thrilling descent for advanced skiers. Mürren’s terrain is ideal for those seeking adventure and technical skiing.
