A 2022 to forget in which the very high temperatures forced to close all European glaciers, except the incombustible Hintertux Gletscher in Austria, and a 2023 that did not improve things much, made Tignes announced that they were going to abandon summer skiing. They would close at the beginning of May and would not reopen slopes until November.
The Grande Motte de Tignes Glacier maintains a good influx in summer.
Not only summer skiing was abandoned, but also autumn skiing.
But the weather has been capricious once again this year, and this time what it has left is a lot of snow in winter, and the same in spring. So Tignes has found itself with slopes on the glacier that claim to be full of skiers.
Tignes Development, the company that manages the slopes and lifts at this ski resort in the French Alps, has announced that this 2024 it will open slopes on June 22 and close them, conditions permitting, on July 21. In other words, a whole month ahead for skiing in the sun and good temperatures.
The current conditions are so good that they are already announcing that they expect to open 20 kilometers of slopes. This seems to be the figure of the summer, because Zermatt announced that it will also open that same surface thanks to convert the exclusive training slopes for tourist use; and Stelvio also because it wants to reopen a track that had been unused for years and that connects Trincerone - 3050 with the base at 2,760 meters.
Returning to Tignes, the company warns however that the number of kilometers available will be subject to snow conditions. Seems like a no-brainer, but given the last two summers, they must not want any last-minute complaints.
Tignes closed its ski season for tourists last May 5. A few lifts were put back into operation the following day, but only for club and racers training, who were able to unleash their skis in peace and quiet until May 17.

Other summer activities in Tignes include the nautical base from June 22 to September 7, and the bike park from June 29 to September 1.
What it does maintain is its reopening, already at the end of November, on the 23rd, the same day as Val Thorens, so we will not see it open in autumn.
