Sierra Nevada has received between 15 and 20 centimeters of new snow (until 2:30 p.m. on January 20) after a stormy weather during Sunday, coinciding with the celebration of World Snow Day, whose sporting events were suspended due to lack of visibility on the competition slopes.
The snowfall, which has conditioned the opening of the resort , especially in high areas, has allowed the change of snow quality on the slopes (which is now powder snow again) and opens the door to the extension of the ski area , especially in the Parador-Cauchiles area and, consequently, of the Virgen de las Nieve chairlift, which has not yet been released this season.
The previous snowfall recorded in the winter season of Granada occurred on December 13, despite which Sierra Nevada has gradually incorporated slopes thanks to snow production.
The Sierra Nevada National and Natural Park, the same that embraces the ski resort from which it takes its name, has been included in the IUCN 'Green List', which certifies that there can be coexistence between mountain and slopes.
