The ski lift is dead. Long live the ski lift! It will not be like that, far from it, but with the speed that the advancement of technology is going and the desire that companies have to offer something very new with which to attract the customer, who knows if this would happen one day. Those at Amazon at least seem to want to put it on the table.
According to the British newspaper Telepgraph, the North American company has just presented a patent for a drone capable of dragging a person up the slope without having to get on a ski lift. The device detects the position of the skier or snowboarder through the positioning system, and unfolds a cable so that it can be grasped. Once it reaches its destination, the hitch retracts and the drone follows its owner autonomously.
It is not known why Amazon has patented something like this. Perhaps to demonstrate the strength that such a device can have. But it seems certain that the lords of Doppel mayr and Leitner can continue to breathe easy, because the Americans do not seem to have any intention of bringing something like that to the market.
In fact, it is not the first time that someone surprises with a similar invention. In 2016, Samsung presented through a video how youtuber Casey Neistat used a drone to snowboard on a mountain.
The Sierra Nevada National and Natural Park, the same that embraces the ski resort from which it takes its name, has been included in the IUCN 'Green List', which certifies that there can be coexistence between mountain and slopes.
