The creation of more sustainable spaces that offer citizens the possibility of recycling the waste they generate should continue to expand. Therefore, some of the ski resorts have incorporated actions to improve sustainability. This has been shown this morning by representatives of the Government of Aragon, the Aramón group, the Consortium Nº1 of Huesca and Ecoembes - the environmental organization that coordinates the recycling of packaging in Spain-, who during a tour of the Formigal resort have exposed the details of the project launched with the aim of bringing recycling to snow lovers, raising awareness about the importance of properly separating waste in the yellow container (plastic containers, cans and briks) and blue (paper containers and cardboard).
Also, during the visit, attendees have been able to see the progress of the initiative in Formigal, using the different tools that have been provided to skiers to encourage and facilitate among them the gesture of recycling.
The project is already present in most of the ski resorts that make up the Aramón group, where several points have been installed to properly separate and deposit the waste generated by ski enthusiasts during their passage through the slopes. Specifically, the action has reached the Formigal facilities, which have 165 bins and 78 containers to deposit plastic containers, cans and briks (yellow bins and bins), as well as paper and cardboard (blue bins and bins). The Cerler resort, which has 90 bins and 15 yellow and blue containers and, meanwhile, skiers visiting Panticosa will find 45 bins and 45 containers scattered throughout the resort. Together, only these winter resorts sell 1.2 million days of skiing per season.
Fernando Blázquez, manager of Ecoembes in Aragón, has affirmed that:
“The recycling of packaging has become an internalized habit in the day-to-day life of citizens. However, we believe that it is necessary to implement it not only in our homes, but also in those places where we spend more time. That is why it is necessary to have the collaboration of the administration and companies such as the Aramón group that, thanks to their commitment to the environment and recycling, it is possible to give a second life to the waste that is generated outside our homes, in places of leisure, holiday, etc. Together, little by little, we evolved steadily towards a circular economy model ”
For her part, Marta de Santos, general director of Climate Change and Environmental Education of the Government of Aragon, highlighted the "excellent" data of the first month of the campaign:
"As they have explained to us, participation with respect to last year has tripled."
In addition, the director wanted to thank the responsibility of the users, as well as the initiative and the work of the personnel of the ski resorts of Aramón, Ecoembes, GRHusa and the Comarca del Alto Gállego. He also recalled that the Government of Aragon has a Comprehensive Waste Plan, the GIRA Plan 2018_2022, which has incorporated the principles of the circular economy, so that good design, production, reuse, repair and recycling practices make Almost nothing is rubbish and I get to landfill. For this reason, De Santos has encouraged companies to change overpacking practices and Aragonese citizens to make conscious and responsible consumption, also in these leisure spaces, to prevent the generation of waste. Finally, he also pointed out that:
“The Government of Aragon is one of the eight European partners of the Interreg Europe CECI project, to involve citizens in the circular economy, and that Ecoembes is one of the agents involved in this project. This is one of the actions considered in it, thus promoting the reduction in the generation of waste and the recovery of the materials they contain to prevent their destination from being the landfill. ”
The initiative began as a pilot project at the Panticosa resort and was developed during July and August with the installation of several points for the correct separation of waste. After the successful recycling data collected over those two months, and the one that in the last summer tripled with a total of 680 kilos tripled, the action has been extended to Formigal and also to the Aramón Cerler resort with much Greater weight of customers.
In addition, it has been reinforced with trainings focused on the personnel of the resorts in order to raise awareness about the importance of recycling in their workplace and its positive impact on the environment. In this regard, Antonio Gericó, general director of ARAMÓN, underlines the snow group's commitment to the environment:
“Environmental sustainability is one of the fundamental pillars of Aramón. We love these mountains, we live and work in them. It is a priority for us to respect and care for them, and encourage actions like this because these mountains are our home, our office and our legacy. ”
