The project seeks to reinforce the guarantee of conditions in existing ski slopes where there is a snowmaking system, but installed so many years ago that its technology is quite inefficient and obsolete.
Following the approval by the Government of Aragón of an allocation of almost 78 million Euros to modernize and reinforce the snow production system in all the ski resorts of Huesca and Teruel ( both semi-public and private) , .blicas and private), Aramón has started to work with the Instituto Aragonés de Gestión Ambiental (INAGA) on the installation of several high and low pressure devices in its two winter resorts in the Tena Valley.
In this way, as reported Wednesday by the Heraldo de Aragón, the intention in this first phase is, on the one hand, to strengthen and improve the production of snow on ski slopes where this system is already in place but needs to be modernized. This is the case of the Cuartalé (red) and Los Asnos (blue) runs located in the upper area of Panticosa, as well as La Carbonera, located in the Anayer ski area of Formigal and for medium level skiers. These are sections with poor orientation, where in addition to little snow precipitation and frequent gusts of wind, the sun hits more than in other areas, as specified in the project, "the improvement of these slopes ensures continuity during the season without intermediate cuts occurring and improving the snow thickness in some areas, as they are negatively affected by wind, sunshine or lack of precipitation".
The objective is to reinforce the current snow production system of these slopes, which is currently insufficient.
Thus, for example, in La Carbonera de Formigal, 10 lances will be added (in addition to the three there are now) and 1 cannon (now there will be two). In total, in this layout we will find, therefore, 15 devices to make programmed snow, when until now there were only 4 .
In Los Asnos de Panticosa, the number of devices has also tripled. If now there are 4 cannons, 7 more will be added, plus a lance. In total we will have 12.
The project has been entrusted to the company Technoalpin, and new generation devices will be installed, capable of producing snow in greater quantity and quality, with a much lower energy consumption. In fact, the current cannons have been in service for more than three decades, with a quite obsolete technology, which need the temperature to be above 5 or 6 negative degrees to be able to start them up.
The INAGA has given its approval to the project, specifying that "As a conclusion to the "Simplified environmental impact assessment study of the snowmaking project of several ski slopes in the ski resorts of Formigal and Panticosa", and after having analyzed all the possible environmental impacts of the project , the INAGA has approved it. and after having analyzed all the possible impacts that the project could generate, it is deduced that the project produces an overall compatible impact, with the possibility of applying both preventive and corrective measures that will effectively contribute to the minimization of said impact.
Therefore, as a whole, the Project is viable with the consideration of the preventive and corrective measures activated and the implementation of the Environmental Monitoring Program."
The modernization of the artificial snow system in these three slopes of the ski resorts of Formigal and Panticosa is included in the program of modernization and improvement of snow production in all the winter resorts for which the Government of Aragón approved a historical allocation of more than 78 million Euros.
The program is aimed both at the five semi-public ski resorts shared by the Government of Aragon itself and Ibercaja at 50%, and the two private ones, Astún and Candanchú. These two winter resorts assure that they are also well advanced in the drafting of their projects, which will be presented shortly.
Also Cerler has also advanced its project for the construction of a regulation pool for snowmaking in the area called "La Inllada", although its execution will be for next year.
