Aramón submits the request for approval of the PIGA on the Astún and Formigal junction project.

March 23, 2023. Formigal, S.A., a company of the Aramón Group, has started the procedures for the initiation of the environmental impact assessment procedure and the approval of the Aragón General Interest Project (PIGA) to link the Aragón and Tena valleys through the installation of a cable car that will connect the Aragón and Tena valleys through the installation of a cable car.n (PIGA) for the union of the Aragón and Tena valleys through the installation of a cable car that will connect the ski resorts of Formigal-Panticosa and Astún.

This application, which contains all the environmental documentation, has been submitted to the Directorate General for Territorial Planning. At the same time, this same documentation has been submitted to the Instituto Aragonés de Gestión Ambiental (INAGA), the competent body to approve the project's Environmental Impact Statement.

This request is made after the approval, last Monday, March 20, in the Aragon Government Council, of the declaration of autonomic interest with general interest on the project and the attribution to Formigal S.A. of the condition of promoter of the project.

The new gondola lift will increase the economic impact of the snow ski area in Aragón, with a forecast of between 50 and 70 million euros a year in the first three years of operation, and will increase the number of skiers in the region by 9%.

It would also generate some 500 jobs per year. With this project, the Aragonese Pyrenees would be home to one of the main ski areas in Europe.

Layout of the future Canal Roya cable car connection.

The project will mean an increase in the economic impact of around 50 million euros per year in the first years of operation.

The application submitted includes both the Environmental Impact Studio and the basic ski lift project, and is accompanied by the specific studies prepared for the area: the avalanche study, archaeological study, paleontological study, geological risk study and hydrological risk study. The documentation also analyzes the economic, social and territorial impact of the project.

All these documents present very detailed studies and a technical proposal that is consistent and respectful of the reality of the terrain. The proposed cable car would cover a distance of 4.3 km between the two stations in a journey time of 14 minutes.

Aragón seals the union of Astún and Formigal, which will have an annual impact of 50 million.

Some 500 jobs would be created annually in the valleys where the resorts are located.

The project also envisages the construction of three resorts that would be adapted to the characteristics of the landscape, especially the intermediate resort, which is planned to be semi-underground and, like the resort that will leave the Formigal domain, with green roofs.

With the installation of this cable transport system, not only will the skiable domains be linked and the positioning of Aragonese skiing will be improved, making it a reference at European level, but tourism will also be boosted throughout the year, providing greater activity to the offer in the area.

The Aramón Group is launching this project with the support of the Agreement signed on February 14 between the Government of Aragón, the Provincial Council of Huesca, Eivasa and the Group.
