Around 15.30 pm, a large avalanche of snow has fallen on the road leading to Astún, thus blocking both arrivals and departures. The ski resort was closed today precisely because of the weather situation, although there were not few who had come to the slopes to enjoy the large amounts of snow that has fallen these days.
After verifying that there were no personal damages, the ski resort has quickly cleaned the track, and has asked all the people who were in the resort to leave due to the risk that the wet and freshly fallen snow could pose.
Currently traffic has been restored, but this avalanche is a reminder that the extraordinary snowfalls that are happening these days in much of the Pyrenees, can cause avalanches, especially when skiers or snowboarders go off- slope .

The risk of avalanches in the Aragon Pyrenees is 4 out of 5, the main reason why the ski resort has preferred to remain closed this Sunday. Its thicknesses have gone from 74 cm last February 24, to the 180 cm of maximum that it has today, that is to say, a meter of new snow on the mountains in just one week.
For Candanchú, the DGT has just issued a black level alert for the N330a road, and an orange level alert for the N330b for avalanche risk.
The Sierra Nevada National and Natural Park, the same that embraces the ski resort from which it takes its name, has been included in the IUCN 'Green List', which certifies that there can be coexistence between mountain and slopes.
