Grooming machine in Baqueira Beret
The Baqueira Beret ski resort has made a major investment in snow production to increase efficiency in the use of electricity and water and reduce its carbon footprint.
Slopes have been rearranged, and three new slopes have been added, highlighting the red Barqueta, which descends from the Mirador de Baqueira directly to Argulls, bringing the total skiable length of the resort to 170 km, including the three off- slope routes.
Digital processes have been streamlined for the convenience of skiers and snowboarders. The Hotel Montarto has been completely renovated offering a very modern accommodation directly on the slopes and on the slopes the cafeteria La Choza is destined to be a new successful restaurant.
The resort of Val d'Aran and Valls d'Àneu is known for its quality and quantity of snow, as it is located on an Atlantic slope. The rationalization and extension of slopes with 3 new layouts and the investment in snow production are outstanding novelties for winter 23-24.
In terms of accommodation and catering, the mythical Hotel Montarto has been completely renovated and at altitude 1800 the new cafeteria La Choza will be the star this winter.
Several routes have been rearranged, two no longer exist and there are now three new slopes that will increase the resort's offer for 2023-2024 to a total of 114.
One of them in the Beret area on the return to Orri, which is a blue one called Vista Beret, while the old slope that bore this name has been renamed Ta Baqueira 1. This new access slope has been created to decongest the return to the main part of the resort.
On the other hand, at the northwest end of Beret, the Clòt der Os slope will give access to Tsd Dossau and then return to the core of Beret through the beginners' area. Also in Beret, for greater safety for skiers, the Colhet de Marimanha slope that descends from Dossau and Cabanes from the TDS Clot der Os no longer crosses , thus achieving two wide and comfortable routes.
A new red slope has been designed to access the Argulls area from the Mirador de Baqueira, called Barqueta, adding 770 m of length and 274 m of vertical drop, which allows a direct descent through a difficult slope to the Argulls and Bonaigua area.
In Baqueira 1800, the Bosque slope has been added, which starts at the top of the Telecabina Baqueira and links with Esquiròs. On the other hand, the Tamarro slope has acquired all the prominence of the central area of Baqueira by merging with the disappeared Isards, adding 2,297 m in length and 465 m of vertical drop.
Baqueira will have a maximum of 170 kilometres of ski runs.
In the resort, 60% of the 170 km of slopes have snow production. Ninety-four percent of the surface area is snowed in Baqueira, 53% in Beret and 37% in Bonaigua. These figures are the result of three decades of continuous investment in ensuring skiing and snowboarding.
Currently, snow production is a pioneer in terms of technological innovation in favour of the environment, reducing electricity and water consumption by increasing efficiency. The technology currently used has made it possible to reduce electricity consumption by 48% per m3 compared to the values of a decade ago. For the 23-24 season, 66 latest generation snowmakers have been installed, resulting in a total of 693.
With the powerful 6-people TSD Dossau installed in 2022, the number of users skiing in the area of influence has increased by 24%, which has led to a significant increase in snow production with 21 new snowmakers on the Ticolet slope.
At the base of Beret, 14 new snowmakers have been added on the Audeth and Debutants slopes. In addition to these, 4 new ones have been installed at the Fernández-Ochoa Stadium in the area near the forest, and the ski lift has an intermediate station to facilitate access to the upper part of the stadium or to the Snowpark, which in turn has 3 new devices.
In the Baqueira area, 2 snowmakers have also been added on the Tortuga slope and 8 more to reinforce different areas of this central area of the resort. The Bonaigua area has also received improvements with the addition of 8 snowmaking devices.
This season the fleet of snow groomers, essential for the meticulous care of the slopes, has been expanded and three new machines have been added, bringing the total to 18 vehicles of this type to cover the 170 km of existing slopes.
Baqueira improves snow production
Baqueira Beret has carried out substantial improvements regarding digitalization in various areas of the resort to avoid queues and increase skier satisfaction.
The "click & collect" system has been installed in several of the catering points, with special emphasis on the new cafeteria of La Choza. Orders can be placed online through a QR code, always knowing the waiting time to pick up the food. The aim of the online orders in restaurants is to speed up customer requests so that they can make the most of their skiing day.
The Telecabina car park lot located in the Ruda Shopping Center has a new access system to increase customer convenience . Starting this winter, access cards will no longer be necessary thanks to the installation of ticketless technology. This will make it much quicker and easier to access and exit the car park lot before and after a day's skiing. The management is through the reading of the license plate of the car so you can reserve a place and make the payment in advance through the website of the station setting access and exit time. With this system there is no need to make any process in the car park lot itself.
The Audi Ski Kronos timed giant moves from Baqueira to Beret and is located parallel to the Reina slope below the Snowpark. This timed activity is complemented by the Race Corner installed in the Audi Quattro Bar with a screen that will allow you to see the descents directly on the premises with a ski pass reader.
To facilitate the evolution of the beginners, the Tq. Pla de Beret has been relocated. This includes a more effective orientation of the ski lift and the relocation of the conveyor belt on the side of the beginners' slope.
During this season, resort guests will find a new dining area underneath the 1800's Cinco Jotas Restaurant. It is called La Choza in memory of the mythical chairlift already disappeared. It is a completely renovated space where they can enjoy a casual offer based on hamburgers, ramen and finger food, among others.
It is worth mentioning the impressive views from its terrace and that orders can be placed online with the aforementioned "click and collect" system. You can also order inside the restaurant or through the bar installed in one of the windows.
Baqueira will open the new cafeteria La Choza
One of the most important novelties this year is the complete renovation of the Hotel Montarto, which opened its doors in 1972 as the first hotel located directly on the slopes in Baqueira Beret. The hotel is completely new, after three years of phased works, with an absolute update with special emphasis on sustainability with integral improvement of thermal insulation and warm, low-energy lighting for maximum energy efficiency.
The rooms have their own Wi-Fi and the layout has been modified for greater spaciousness and comfort. The gym has changed location and is now located in new premises with outside light and better ventilation. All this to provide customers with a more comfortable experience and easy access to the station entrance. The renovation has also been applied to the neighbouring Wine Bar by Viña Pomal.
The Hotel Montarto in Baqueira has been completely renovated.
