The Baqueira Beret ski resort had it all ready to begin the installation work of the first two chairlifts in the Peülla sector in spring once the snow is removed, now with the presentation of the claim by the environmental entity Ipcena before the judge the project could be paralyzed, as published by the La Leridano media La Mañana in its digital edition.
It has been before the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) where a petition has been filed within the dispute for the expansion of the Peülla sector. The area of the station that goes into the Pallars Sobirà region.
Ipcena requests in writing to the judge that the chairlift projected within the peripheral area of the Aigüestortes National Park be disallowed. The environmental entity also requests that permission be given to the station to discharge wastewater into the Bonaigua River, its birth is in La Peülla within a protected area.
The spokesman of Ipcena, Joan Vázquez, said on Thursday in the Morning that "that" with the presentation of the brief of demand the litigation is now seen by sentence and this will not occur surely before a year. "
With this movement of the environmental entity the project is committed and, above all, the execution time, although works could be done not linked to the dispute as stated by the Ipcena spokesman.
The Baqueira station already had all the permits to start the remodeling and expansion project of the La Peülla sector this spring.
Joan Vázquez (Ipcena) affirms in the Morning that "it is a barbarity that a chairlift is projected within the most important protected area of the country, the Aigüestortes National Park", so he asks the judge to disallow him, "since skiing it is incompatible within a National Park ".
These two new chairlifts that were planned to be installed this year represent an investment of about 9 million euros. A first chairlift would connect the Cap de Port de la Bonaigua, at 2,070 meters altitude, with the Cap de la Peülla, more than 2,300 meters high. The other would connect the lower part of Peülla, the Clot Gran, with the Cap del Port.
Precisely in this area it is planned to enable the cafeteria and the slopes for beginners, while the other ski lift is the one that will allow the connection to the current ski area of the Val d'Aran. Both chairlifts will be installed in the same direction of the wind, precisely to allow its operation on days of strong blizzard.
The project foresees an estimated global investment of 22.85 million euros and will allow the consolidation and viability of the ski resort in the valleys of Àneu (Pallars) and that Baqueira plans to develop the new sector in three stages of six years each.
The Sierra Nevada National and Natural Park, the same that embraces the ski resort from which it takes its name, has been included in the IUCN 'Green List', which certifies that there can be coexistence between mountain and slopes.
