The heavy snowfall and the harsh winter atmosphere that has been experienced in the Val d'Aran and Valls d'Àneu since last Saturday will allow the partial opening of the resort in the Baqueira ski area on Thursday, December 12. If conditions permit, it is planned to extend the skiable ski area to the areas of Bonaigua and Beret for the weekend.

Up to 95 cm of snow have accumulated in the last 48 hours in Baqueira Beret after the beginning of the snowfall, almost uninterrupted from Saturday night to Monday, recorded in the Central Pyrenees. The storm will allow to open in the area of Baqueira, if the conditions allow it, 38 skiable km corresponding to 34 slopes on Thursday, December 12.

New snowfalls are forecast for Wednesday of this week, but for the moment the recorded thicknesses are between 50 cm and the remarkable 95 cm mentioned above.

On the other hand, the low temperatures have accompanied at all times, with minimums that have fallen to -11ºC in Cap de Baqueira at 2500 m. This situation has ensured the production of snow at the main points of the ski resort.

Services in operation

As for Baqueira Store services, restaurants, nurseries, customer information, etc., all services in the Baqueira area will be open and at full capacity to serve skiers on the first day of the season.

Going into detail in restoration, the station will offer the free flow of the Forest in 1800, the restaurant 5 Jotas Grill and the cafeteria La Choza. In the core of Baqueira 1500, the Wine Bar by Viña Pomal, the Borda Lobato and the Baqueira Bar will be up and running. In Orri, the Moët Winter Lounge will also open for the first time this season. For its part, the Hotel Montarto will open on Thursday night with its Piano Bar and Drinkery also in operation.

Baqueira Store services will also be available at the new 1500 store, Ruda Shopping Center, Hotel Montarto and Bosque 1800. The Baby Baqueira for children will be available in Baqueira 1800 and 1500 from Friday. On the other hand, the covered car park of the Telecabina in Ruda will be open.

Extension for the weekend

The technical services are this week focused on the Baqueira area for Thursday's opening, but there are also teams working in the rest of the ski areas. In this way, the ongoing tasks and the important investments in snow production and piste grooming machines may allow the extension of skiable kilometres to the areas of Bonaigua and Beret for the weekend.
