Gourette has already dismantled the Cotch chairlift to install a new gondola lift.

There is a lot to do at the Gourette resort this summer in terms of new developments for the next ski season. So it's not surprising that while other resorts with pending projects are still getting ready, this area of the French Pyrenees has already been hard at work for weeks.

Anyone visiting Gourette next December will find a new gondola lift to replace the Cotch chairlift. And this detachable six-people will have to be found at the location of the old Sarrière chairlift.

There is practically nothing left of the TSD6 Cotch at its former location. With the chairs, cables and motors removed, a helicopter arrived last week to take the bollards to the new area where this chairlift will be placed, where the Sarrière chairlift is no longer there either.

At the same time, the departure and arrival terminals of the chairlift have also been dismantled, and the construction team is already laying the foundations of the new stations for the 10-people Cotch gondola lift.

The work is being done mainly with heavy-duty vehicles that transport the equipment from one point to another via tracks that have been set up, and eventually a helicopter is hired. Basically, for the removal of bollards and the placement of new ones at the new point, as well as those of the gondola lift.

The snowfalls that have continued to fall this month of May have not notably affected the work, which has been carried out normally. The delivery deadline remains for December 2024, when the new ski season is scheduled to start.

Another project being worked on at Gourette, although it seems to be a long time coming, is the restoration of the Valentine car park lot directly on the slopes. It is a covered car park lot with 1,200 car park spaces for private vehicles, which had to be closed in 2021 due to structural problems detected, which put the infrastructure at risk.

Since then, work has been underway to recover this huge car park area. A few weeks ago a definitive project was presented, at a cost of 25 million euros. Elements that are unserviceable due to corrosion or wear and tear must be removed and new ones installed after shoring.

It is not an approved solution, but it is a step towards seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for some owners in the Valentin Community who cannot park their vehicles, as well as an important car park point for the Gourette ski resort.
