1 Technical data of the Barèges Express gondola lift

The current Tournaboup 4-people fixed grip chairlift will be replaced next year by a 10-people detachable gondola lift that will significantly shorten the travel time. This lift, which departs from Barèges, connects to the Laquette and Lienz areas, characterized by lush forests and practically the only wooded area of the Grand Tourmalet ski resort.

It was decided to replace a chairlift with a gondola lift because the Laquette and Lienz areas are used in the summer for the bike park, and this lift will make it easier to take bicycles up. This will further enhance year-round activities.

The permits to be able to mount this new chairlift have arrived these days, so there is no longer time to start mounting it this spring, so it will be for 2026, when the ski season ends, when it will start to be mounted and have it ready for December of that year, ready for the winter season. Therefore, the Tournaboup chairlift, which was installed in 1997, will still have a useful life of 28 years.

The investment comes after the inauguration this winter of the new Quatre Termes chairlift with 4 people and fixed clamp, which replaces another one with two people and the same technology. This lift accesses practically only one blue run, the Bergers, in the highest area of the ski resort, but it is where the snow usually holds best, which is much appreciated by expert skiers on days with recent snowfalls. The more adventurous skiers can access the 4 Termes Peak (which gives its name to the chairlift) and look for some off-piste areas in the direction of La Mongie.

With the replacement of the Tournaboup by a gondola lift, the snow front in this area of Barèges will be renewed, and the restaurant-cafeteria will probably be renovated.
