Grandvalira grows to 215 kilometres of slopes with the new Encampadana ski area
Grandvalira has opened today the new Encampadana ski area in the Canillo ski area with the opening of the Seig chairlift and three new red runs. With this inauguration, Grandvalira Resorts now has 308 km and continues to be the largest snow ski area in southern Europe and the Pyrenees.
The Grandvalira ski resort has opened today Saturday February 24, 2024 the Encampadana area, a newly created ski area that, with the installation of the Seig chairlift and three new red runs, provides the resort with another 5 skiable kilometres located in the ski area of Canillo.
With this addition, the Andorran ski resort now has a total of 215 km and 140 slopes for all levels, as well as 76 lifts. As a whole, Grandvalira Resorts' skiing offer now totals 308 km between its three winter resorts and continues to be the largest snow ski area in southern Europe and the Pyrenees.
Work on the new area began in September and was recently completed. True to the Grandvalira Resorts snow guarantee, the new area has also been equipped with a well networked snowmaking system with state-of-the-art equipment that is more efficient.
The project has taken advantage of the retired four-people chairlift from Port Negre, in Arinsal, to relocate it to this new location after receiving a thorough overhaul and upgrade that has considerably extended its useful life.
The ski lift is almost 800 m long and crosses a 276 m difference in altitude. With the new name of Telesilla Seig, the three slopes have been laid out around it and have been baptized as Seig, La Font and La Pala, extending the ski area of the Canillo ski area and thus contributing to the dynamization of the ski area. For now, the great work of the terrain teams has made it possible to open today the 2.5 km long La Pala slope.

Despite a winter in which snow precipitation has been significantly reduced, Grandvalira Resorts continue to offer a high number of skiable kilometres, the largest in the Pyrenees: more than 180 km of slopes at present.
This has been possible thanks to the ski areas' extensive and modern snowmaking network and the excellent work of the terrain teams. Specifically, the Grandvalira resort has 120 km and snow thicknesses of up to 55 cm, while Pal Arinsal has about 40 km of slopes with snow thicknesses of up to 55 cm. Ordino Arcalís, meanwhile, has 65% of the ski area open, which represents about 25 km of slopes and snow thicknesses of up to 1 meter.
Despite the general shortage of precipitation, the extensive snowmaking network of the ski areas and the work of the terrain teams maintain good conditions on the slopes and enable the practice of skiing. Likewise, forecasts for the coming days maintain the drop in temperatures and more snow precipitation, which is expected to increase the thickness of snow.
The new Grandvalira Seig chairlift opens a new skiable area of up to 5 kilometres of new marked slopes.
