Grandvalira Resorts makes a positive summer balance despite COVID-19

Published: Sep 14, 2020

Grandvalira and Ordino Arcalís make a very positive balance of a summer season where the influx has gone from less to more and which will continue to be active until October 12 in the case of the Mon (t) Magic Family Park in Canillo, which will open its facilities every weekend, and until the end of October in the case of mountain huts. The number of global visitors has been practically similar to that of previous years despite the uncertainty generated by COVID-19. The period from August 9 to September 13 has been the most positive, with significant increases in influx and especially in billing. In the case of the Mon (t) Magic Family Park in Canillo, the last four weeks have registered 40% more turnover than the same period last year. Compliance with all security measures has made the Grandvalira Resorts resorts a safe and attractive place for all customers, who have been pleasantly surprised.. With a predominance of visitors coming mainly from Catalonia, southern France and Andorra, Grandvalira and Ordino Arcalís have established themselves as poles of attraction in the Pyrenees during the summer. The new general director of Grandvalira-Nevasa, Juan Ramón Moreno, makes a positive balance: "We have worked very well, all the work done before opening and during these months, to offer a quality service that has helped us to gain credibility in the face of to this winter season and incidentally demonstrate that summer in the Grandvalira Resorts resorts, gains more relevance and followers every year ”.

Mon (t) Magic Family Park

The Mon (t) Magic Family Park in the Canillo de Grandvalira sector, with its wide range of attractions, has once again stood out as one of the favorite recreational spaces for families with nearly 35,000 visitors, figures very similar to those of the previous summer despite having opened a week later. The positive fact is that the accumulated billing in the family park has been equalized thanks to the increase in average spending per customer. One of the main novelties for this summer has been the Mágic Gliss 3D, a virtual reality experience that has stood out as one of the favorite attractions, along with the emblematic zip line of more than 500 meters in length, which has added a total of 30,800 tickets. It should be noted that the adrenaline pack that included Mágic Gliss, zip line and Big Airbag, has grown by 163%.

Although the total visitor figures are slightly lower than last summer, the average spend per customer has increased considerably. The Mon (t) Magic de Canillo will remain open every weekend until October 12, with free access to the cable car for all Andorra residents.

The Golf Soldeu consolidates

Golf Soldeu, which closed the season yesterday September 13, has been open fewer days and has missed the foreign public, although the response from the local practitioner has grown. A key factor that has boosted the Soldeu sector has been the new gastronomic offer with the opening of the Wine & Meat Bar by Jean Leon Restaurant, which has made it possible to offer a high-quality global experience to practitioners and hikers. The restaurant, which began its first summer season, has received a great welcome from customers, who have been able to enjoy the wonderful views of Soldeu accompanied by a more careful offer that has allowed the Soldeu sector to increase its turnover by 20% with respect to the previous year.

Funicamp with cyclists

This summer the protagonist in the Encamp de Grandvalira sector has been the new BBT routes and the 4x4 exits to Orris de Cubil and Llac de Pessons, they have been the most requested activities in the Encamp de Grandvalira sector, where the customer has been able to enjoy the freedom of the mountain in a quiet and safe natural environment. The most important part of visitors has been experienced during the month of August, taking advantage of the good weather and the high tourist occupation in the country.

Pessons never fails

For yet another year, the Refugi del Llac de Pessons Restaurant with its privileged views of the Circ de Pessons has once again reaffirmed itself as one of the classic visits for lovers of nature and good gastronomy. Hikers, like those visitors who have preferred to use the 4x4 bus to go up, have been able to enjoy an idyllic setting and nature in its purest form, taking advantage of the many routes available for all levels starting from the restaurant and ending in the middle of a landscape incredible to end the day tasting a typical mountain food.

Epic Andorra discovers another Andorra

One of the great bets of the summer and that continues during the winter season, are the experiential accommodation experiences of Epic Andorra that have been very well received. A unique concept in the country, combining nature, sports, adventure, gastronomy, comfort adapted to the customer and offering exclusive experiences within the Principality of Andorra. During this summer, the demand for these experiences that merge outdoor adventure as well as staying in traditional Andorran huts, has skyrocketed. The high registered customer satisfaction is a new push to continue betting on this new tourism model.

The Tristaina gondola registers 34,500 passages

The Ordino Arcalís resort, which was incorporated into the Grandvalira Resorts offer for the first year, has registered a total of 34,500 passages on the Tristaina cable car, with an influx that has been growing during the summer, with a slower month of July and an August occupancy with even higher numbers than last summer despite the current situation influenced by COVID-19. Visitors, mainly attracted by the spectacular natural environment of the Tristaina Lakes, have been able to enjoy the Tristaina Cable Car route that connects the base of the resort with Coma del Forat for the second consecutive summer. The walking routes at more than 2,200 meters high and the panoramic terrace of the La Coma Restaurant have delighted hikers. On the other hand, the closure of the CG3 road has favored the frequentation of cycle tourists, with a very positive assessment by all cycling enthusiasts, who have been able to practice their sport in optimal conditions.

Illa and Sorteny refuge

The Illa Refuge, located at an altitude of 2,500 m, has closed its fourth year of operation with a very positive influx despite having the space restricted to 20-25 people. With a total of nearly 700 overnight stays, the refuge has occupied 100% of its capacity every day of August. The assessment of the security measures, through a quick test of all the visitors who stayed overnight, has been highly valued by all the customers. The shelter will remain open until October 31, before starting the preparation for the next winter season.

El Refugio de Sorteny, which inaugurated a new terrace and gastronomic offer, has enjoyed a very positive evaluation by customers. The unique location, the multiple route options for all levels within the Sorteny Natural Park, have made the Refuge an unavoidable point of visit for all mountain lovers.
