2 6,000 people in 8 après-skis

4 Opening of the Canillo sector

The Grandvalira resort has once again been among the main reference snow destinations. During these 16 days of Christmas holidays, the Andorran resort has received an average of 16,300 daily skiers , results very in line with the influx recorded last season.

The days in which the Snow Domain has concentrated more visits have been on December 29 and 30 with an average of 24,000 skiers per day . The origin of skiers who have moved to Grandvalira during the holidays has been mainly from proximity destinations such as Catalonia , Madrid , Valencia and southern France , but there has also been an increase in the number of users from other farther destinations like United Kingdom or Russia.

The exploitation teams have doubled their efforts during the Christmas holidays in order to keep the slopes in the best possible conditions considering the long anticyclonic period and, therefore, the lack of snow-shaped rainfall. The equipment of machines have worked very carefully in the conditioning of slopes adding a total of 6,411 hours since the beginning of the season, a figure that far exceeds the records of other previous seasons. In parallel, so have the cannon equipment that, especially in the second installment of the Christmas holidays and due to the drop in temperatures, have actively responded with the start-up of the inivation network practically uninterruptedly. It should be noted that the last snowfall in Grandvalira took place on December 17 (12 cm).

Although the weather conditions have not accompanied the Pyrenees resorts at this beginning of the season, Grandvalira has satisfactorily resolved the Christmas holiday period with 147 km of connected tracks, the widest open ski area in southern Europe.

The general director of Grandvalira-Nevasa, Alfonso Torreño said: "We are very satisfied with the balance of the Christmas period. The most important thing is that in complicated snow seasons, Grandvalira remains a guarantee for skiers. The incredible work of the field teams that have doubled their efforts to get a product that has satisfied our skiers. " And he added: "I take this opportunity to thank all the skiers who have trusted Grandvalira as a snow destination. All this work has been done so that they have been able to enjoy good skiing parties."

Holidays for all audiences

During Christmas, Grandvalira has deployed a full program of activities for all audiences. On the one hand, the little ones have returned to be the great protagonists of these days with the arrival of Santa Claus , the descent of torches and the arrival of His Majesties the Kings who have visited the resort for another year. On the other hand, skiers have also been able to celebrate the new year in different restaurants of the resort, once again turning the domain into a reference of gastronomy.

The Ski and Snowboard School has worked at full capacity during the Christmas period as well as the offer of adventure with snowmobiles and mushing as the most requested activities.

Likewise, the three snowparks of Grandvalira, El Tarter Snowpark , Sunrise Xavi by Henrik Harlaut (Grau Roig sector) and Sunset Park Peretol by Henryk Harlaut (Grau Roig sector) have progressively opened more modules and lines and received very good acceptance and influx of freestylers during the holidays.

6,000 people in 8 après-skis

The après-ski of Grandvalira has also been one of the main attractions for skiers who have chosen the domain to spend their Christmas holidays. The Abarset , in the El Tarter sector, has once again become one of the key points of the après-skis in the Pyrenees with performances by great djs of the electronic scene such as Alex Kenon , Francisco Allendes , Dj Soundbouree , Colin Peters or Viviana Casanova , among others. The terrace has had 8 parties spread throughout Christmas that have brought together more than 6,000 people.

Short term forecast

Grandvalira foresees the opening of more skiable surface in the next days provided that the weather conditions allow keeping snow production active . Looking forward to Wednesday , January 9 in the afternoon or Thursday , January 10 , weather forecasts indicate the arrival of some snow-shaped rainfall on the slopes.

Opening of the Canillo sector

One of the new developments in the coming days is the partial opening of the Canillo de Grandvalira sector , which provides for the link to the El Tarter sector by chair lift starting this Thursday , January 10 . However, the services of the sector such as the Ski and Snowboard School and the restoration will also be launched.
