Less-crowded Ski Resorts in Europe to visit this 2020/2021 Ski Season.

Published: Dec 2, 2020
Share

We all know that this 2020/2021 ski season is going to be qute different than usual.

All ski resorts are implementing health and safety protocols to ensure a "Ski Safe" experience. The mask is mandatory and everyone is asked to maintin social distancing.

Some of you are problably considering visiting smaller and less crowded ski resorts so you don't have to worry about finding large groups of people or long queues to access the ski resort. So, we've prepared this post where we have listed the least crowded ski resorts in Europe that you should definetly visit this winter season.

It is important that you know that a very large ski resort that attracts many people is not always synonymous with overcrowding. In large skiable areas, you have to take into account that all skiers and snowboarders are distributed among all lockers, car park lots and hundreds of skiable kilometres, so even if there are many people, they are divided among multiple places and surely you will hardly find queues.

To see it better, below we show you the less crowded ski resorts:

What are the least crowded ski resorts in Europe?

1. BOÍ TAÜLL, Catalan Pyrenees.

Located in the Lleida Pyrenees, it is a medium-sized family resort that is ideal for both beginner and advanced skiers.

If what you are looking for is to get away from the large crowds and queues, you have found the right resort. In the Boí Taüll ski resort, skiers and snowboarders are spread across the beginners' areas (Pla de Vaques and Pla de les Bassetes) and the expert area (Puig Falcó), which generates a good organization in the lifts and chair lifts and it translates into little crowding of people. It's the perfect balance!

Also, if you feel overwhelmed in small and crowded car parks, in Boí Taüll you will find 2 huge car parks, located outdoors and directly on the slopes. You will not have an excuse to park near the ski resort!

OUR ADVICE: If you want to be one of the first on the slopes and also want to avoid queues (especially in peak season), we recommend you book a hotel/apartment located in Pla de la Ermita. There you will find both apartments and hotels to go with friends (Apartments La Solana or Hotel Taull), or apartments and hotels to travel with your family or your partner (Aparthotel Siente Boí 4 * or Hotel Romànic ). Whatever your holiday, there is accommodation waiting for you!

2. VALLNORD PAL-ARINSAL, Andorra.

This Andorran ski resort is ideal if you are looking for tranquility and few people both in the resort and in your accommodation.

With your Vallnord Pal Arinsal ski pass you can ski in both ski areas (both in Pal and Arinsal) as they are connected to each other by a funicular.

However, from Esquiades.com we recommend that you stay and ski directly in Arinsal , since it is the less crowded ski area of the two. Thus, you will hardly find queues at the chair lifts and ski lifts and you can enjoy more hours of skiing

Of course, make sure you have the appropriate level of skiing, as there are loads of red and blue slopes in Arinsal.

On the other hand, if what you are concerned about is car park near the slopes, in Arinsal you will have no problems. They have a large free outdoor car park that will give you access to the ski slopes and from there you can go skiing to Pal… Can you do all the ski slopes in the same weekend?

✓OUR ADVICE: If you want to stay directly at the foot of the Arinsal slopes and thus forget about taking the car every day, we recommend the Ushuaia Mountain Hotel 4 * , or the Patagonia Atiram 4 * hotel. The Estadi ski slope goes down to these hotels! Take a look at our super offers and book your ski holiday with ski ski pass at Vallnord Pal-Arinsal .

3. ESPOT SKI, Catalan Pyrenees.

If this season you want to learn to ski or are looking for a resort to go with your family and get away from the stresses, the Espot Esquí resort is the best option.

It is a resort located in the Catalan Pyrenees and is not usually very crowded. The main reason is that with our ski packages in Espot Esquí you can also ski with the same ski pass in Port Ainé and, generally, people tend to go skiing in Port Ainé, which is why Espot Esquí is always more "empty" … But this has its good side: More snow for us!

In addition, in Espot Esquí car park is free and outdoors but remember to arrive early in high season because it may fill up during the early hours of the morning

✓ OUR ADVICE: In high season, we recommend that before going skiing at Espot Esquí, you check the status of the car park by calling the resort directly so that you will be in time to change resorts (to Port Ainé) or vice versa. The point is to enjoy the snow without large crowds

4. VALL DE NÚRIA, Catalan Pyrenees.

It is one of the latest additions on Esquiades.com

This small resort located in the Girona Pyrenees is the perfect combination of skiing and mountain activities. As it is a little-known resort and with few skiable kilometres, it does not generate large crowds of people, so it can be a good alternative to spend a weekend with friends or family this snow season.

If you are not a skier, in Vall de Núria you can also enjoy hiking trails , a climbing wall and recreational activities for the little ones that range from zip lines in the snow to tubbing or sledding ... All this directly on the slopes and almost 2,000 meters away! Tall!

Another factor that you must take into account is the access to the Vall de Nuria ski slopes. You can only access it through a rack railway that leaves from the town of Ribes or Queralbs and whose ticket you have included in our offers in Vall de Nuria. An experience!

✓ OUR ADVICE: If you want to be directly on the slopes, surrounded by large mountains and avoid traveling with the car or the rack railway, we recommend the Vall de Nuria 3 * hotel . You can almost leave the hotel with your skis on! Book your ski holiday with a ski ski pass in the Vall de Núria now !

5. FORMIGAL - PANTICOSA, Aragonese Pyrenees.

The Formigal - Panticosa ski resort is another example that in large resorts, despite the fact that there are many people, there are not large crowds (although remember that in high season, there may be days when this situation changes )

In Formigal you can enjoy several ski areas , all of them connected by chair lifts and ski lifts, so it is impossible to get bored among the hundreds of skiable kilometres.

In addition, all car parks are free and are outdoors, although we recommend that you avoid going to Sextas (since it is the first car park that people find when they arrive and, therefore, where the longest queues form at the ski lifts).

Our advice is to park in the Sarrios area, in the Anayet area or in the Portalet area, since these are not so crowded car parks with direct access to the ski lifts of the resort.

✓ OUR ADVICE: If you choose one of our offers in Formigal - Panticosa, you can also ski in the Panticosa resort and although this is a smaller ski resort, it may be a good alternative in case the day you go there is too many people in Formigal.

6. TIGNES, French Alps.

Surely if you Google "ski resort not very saturated" , the Tignes resort will be one of the first results.

It is true that in high season, in the Tignes and Val d'Isère resorts, there are usually quite a lot of people in the restaurants and shops, but if we talk about the ski slopes, they are so big that you will surely not find a queue for a chair lift lasting more than 1 minute. We attest to it!

There is such a variety of slopes and they are sooooo long that there is hardly time for queues to form

In addition, Tignes is a semi-pedestrianized town, so if there is enough snow, you can go out and get to your accommodation skiing every day. In other words, perfect to respect social distancing and avoid any risk related to COVID-19.

✓ OUR ADVICE: Please note that it is mandatory to leave your car in one of the resort's car parks , so we advise you to reserve yours before arrival , as they tend to fill up quite quickly. In this way, you avoid having to make arrangements directly at the destination, thus avoiding unnecessary queues. If you have any questions, call us and we will help you with whatever you need

7. LES 3 VALLÉES, French Alps.

Can you saturate a ski areaof 600 skiable kilometres? It's almost mission impossible! Well this is Les Les 3 Vallées

This ski area has several towns that surely sound like Val Thorens or Méribel , among others, and you can go skiing from one town to another by means of chair lifts, funiculars and ski lifts. Believe it or not, it is one of the least saturated ski resorts and that, considering that it receives thousands of skiers weekly.

Like Tignes, the town of Val Thorens is also semi-pedestrian so you can get to and from your accommodation skiing.

Do you have to go buy bread? Well, go skiing, as it will be the easiest and fastest way to get to the bakery. I wish social distancing was always so much fun, right?

✓ OUR ADVICE: As we have told you, Les Les 3 Vallées is made up of several towns and valleys. Our recommendation is that when booking your ski holiday to ski in Les Les 3 Vallées , choose an accommodation in Val Thorens since it is the highest resort of all and where there is usually less saturation of skiers and snowboarders.

❄ Finally, we would like to remind you that measures are being carried out in all ski resorts to protect ourselves from Covid-19 and it is everyone's duty to respect them and be able to enjoy one more season of this wonderful sport
