Sierra Nevada has closed this Sunday, May 5, the second season with the highest influx in its history with 1,029,036 skiers , 16% more than the previous season; It is the fourth time since there are statistical data that the Granada resort exceeds one million skiers.

To this figure, Sierra Nevada adds another 204,303 customers who enjoyed some of the activities for non-skiers in the Mirlo Blanco complex (93,148 customers, absolute record) or accessed the slope area in the Borreguiles or Al Andalus gondolas (111,155) with that the total number exceeds 1,233,339 users (+ 17%).

The influx of skiers has been reflected in the hotel plant of Pradollano with an average of 68%, somewhat lower in the hotels of the access road to the resort (65%). The distribution of customers per month has been very homogeneous with more than 200,000 skiers per month , except April, which, however, with 132,000, is one of the best in influx.

These figures are largely explained by the combination of a good snow year , great periods of good weather , efficient snow production , careful preparation of tracks and fun activities for the whole family.

The season started a week earlier than expected thanks to the snowfall in November and since then, between snowfall at key moments of the season and snow production, Sierra Nevada has maintained a wide, stable and quality offer .

77 kilometres on average

Thus, with less snowfall than the previous season (25 days versus 54), the resort has maintained an average longer ski length, 77 kilometres on average compared to 54 in the 2017/18 campaign. For 54 days, Sierra Nevada has offered 100 or more kilometres, 8 days more than last season. The fact that the Laguna de las Yeguas area opened on December 1 explains the skiing range offered by Sierra Nevada this season (the second best of all time).

The resort has remained operational the same days as last season: 163 days of skiing (from November 24 to May 5), with 7 days of total closure (3 of them in April, the month of least influx) and a partial closure

The national skier (92%), and within this the Andalusian, Madrid and Valencian, and the international (8%), with British, Portuguese and French at the head, constitute the traditional markets of the resort; about those markets, and other emerging ones.

Activities and competition

Activities such as the Christmas descents of Papa Noel and Reyes Magos , the 12Hours Head , Snow Running , San Miguel Gastro Music, the Sun and Snow music festival or the spring and retro spring swims have provided the resort with a special attraction for all The family throughout this winter.

Nevertheless, the central axis of the events on the slopes has been this season the official competition. Thus, in collaboration with the Andalusian Winter Sports Federation (FADI), Sierra Nevada has been the scene of 29 days of competition with championships in all winter sports disciplines and in all categories (from 3 to 85 years old) ), with the participation of 3,100 athletes.

The corporate social responsibility of the resort is not only in the promotion of winter sports among the ski quarry (with the granting of scholarships to the competition), but it has a point of special relevance in adapted skiing. The adaptability of the resort to disabled athletes has allowed to increase their days of activity in the snow with more than 7,000 days of skiing.

Sierra Nevada, which today begins the review and maintenance work on ski lifts and other facilities, finalizes the preparations for its opening as a mountain resort on July 6 with the program of sporting events , cultural activities, summer camps , ski lifts Summer, trekking route, bike park and a wide range of hotels and restaurants.
