1 An investment for the whole year
2 Pyrenees Plan

The mountain slide of Panticosa will be operational next year, in 2025, after signing this Tuesday the president of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, and the mayor of the town, Jesús María Úriz, the collaboration agreement to install and start it up, in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Manuel Blasco.

"A few months ago we came to Panticosa to present a plan that we want to be strategic for the Pyrenees, the Pyrenees Plan, and within this initiative today we have returned to promote the first singular project: the new mountain toboggan."

These are the words of Azcón, who has also insisted on the importance of the Pyrenees Plan and its unique projects "to deseasonalize tourism".

In the case of the Panticosa mountain toboggan, the infrastructure will allow visitors to travel three kilometers in a carriage on a rail through the ski resort's slopes, with a drop of more than 700 meters, at a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour.

Azcón has recognized the Panticosa City Council "the magnificent work they are doing because they did it with the footbridges and now they show it with this slide".

An investment for the whole year

The investment budget amounts to 6.7 million euros, VAT included, and includes the mountain slide and the necessary auxiliary elements, civil works and the project and construction management. In addition, the heating along the line, the lighting of both the route and, for safety reasons, the Estrimal track that reaches the foot of the village, have been included as extra supplies.

In the 2024 budget of the Government of Aragon an item for the project of 4 million was endowed. According to Azcón:

"and now we are committed to provide the 2.2 million in 2025 that, added to the 500,000 euros allocated by the City Council of Panticosa between 2024 and 2025, will allow the project to be implemented in its entirety. We hope that this will be a reality in 2025.

We want it to be a project that can bring life to the entire Tena Valley 365 days a year. This is a project with the latest technology that will place us at the forefront of mountain attractions not only in the Spanish Pyrenees, but also throughout Europe.

The Pyrenees is a tourist power that we must promote throughout the year. The Pyrenees Plan is a transforming, strategic and global project that goes beyond singular initiatives such as the mountain slide.

The promotion of the Pyrenees by the Government of Aragon, also goes through defending what is ours and of justice, such as the non-installation of photovoltaic panels in the reservoirs, while it also goes hand in hand with a strong housing policy, also in the most tourist areas".

Thus, he recalled that the Government of Aragón is going to promote 455 public housing units in the 38 most touristic municipalities of the Community with an investment of 65 million euros, including the towns of Aínsa, Ansó, Benasque, Biescas, Boltaña, Bonansa, Broto, Canfranc, Hecho, Isábena, Jaca, Montanuy, Panticosa -20 homes-, Sallent de Gállego -60 homes-, Torla or Villanúa.

Pyrenees Plan

The Pyrenees Plan is an ambitious project for the economic and social revitalization of the four northernmost regions: Jacetania, Alto Gállego, Sobrarbe and Ribagorza. According to the President of Aragón:

"The strategy favors employment, competitiveness, economic diversification, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, renaturalization and the creation and improvement of infrastructures and communications that promote the sustainable development of the territory.

Every year, during this legislature, there will be a singular, strategic and emblematic project in each of the Pyrenean regions to multiply the number of tourists and generate wealth. The Pyrenees Plan is not just words, the Pyrenees Plan is reality. It is unstoppable in the four counties, also in the snow ski area.

Next year 74 million euros will be invested in innovation in the ski resorts.

The ski resorts have very powerful facilities, but there are many seasons in which we lack the essential, snow, and I am convinced that a historic investment, not remembered in decades, in the innovation ski area will be made.I am convinced that a historical investment, not remembered in decades in the innovation ski area in the Pyrenees, will give continuity and stability to such an important ski area for us as the snow ski area, which represents 25% of the tourism in Aragon, with 31% of the overnight stays.

It does not make sense that we have magnificent ski resorts, that we have spectacular mountains, and that the canyons that produce snow are from the 90s. Today innovation has undergone a spectacular modernization, not only is it much more efficient from the energy point of view, but it is also much more efficient from the point of view of production at much higher temperatures or with higher humidity".
