From 49 km at the end of last week, to almost 70 km today, Monday. The snowfalls that have beenfalling in the last hours, allows Formigal to significantly expand its skiing offer. In addition, snow precipitation is expected to intensify even more from Wednesday, which gives optimism for what could be one of the best weekends of the season.
Snow thicknesses have also greatly increased. From the maximum of 90 cm recorded on Thursday last week, it has already risen to 140 cm. Thus, Formigal now has the most snow of all the ski resorts in the Pyrenees and Iberian Peninsula. In fact, it is in Aragon where there are now greater thicknesses.
Some records that will increase a lot from Tuesday, with heights that will drop to 800 to 1,000 meters, as Joseba's Blog explains in its latest forecast for February 27 to March 3, where it is added that on that day:
"It can exceed one meter of snow in the area of Larra-Belagua and Arette. Around 70-80cm in areas such as Cauterets, Gourette, Astun -Candanchu. The 50cm will be exceeded in Formigal, especially in the Portalet area".
The snowfall in Formigal has left the resort with a spectacular appearance.
The snowfall will be significant throughout the Pyrenees, also affecting especially the central area, where another 60 cm in Baqueira and a similar figure in the Benasque Valley, with half a meter in both Llanos del Hospital and Cerler, also reaching Boi-Taull.
Aramon is working hard to prepare the slopes with the snow that has fallen, and for the snow that is going to fall, this time during the week:
"The weather forecasts for the next few days say that it will continue to snow and temperatures will continue along this path, allowing us to extend the skiable kilometres with very good snow conditions."
In Cerler it is expected to fall about 40 to 50 cm from Tuesday onwards.
