Vallnord - Pal Arinsal has dismissed the summer season this Monday, October 12 and makes a positive balance despite the situation generated by COVID19, which among other situations, caused the suspension of the UCI BTT World Cup and the Skyrace Comapedrosa , as well as the rest of the planned events. The closure has been carried out in two moments: the first was made with the closure of the Bike Park and Mountain Park on September 13 and in a second, the restoration and the Comapedrosa Refuge on October 12. La Massana resort highlights that it has been a season where they have been able to learn from the new reality and, most importantly, continue working to offer a winter season with the best guarantees. EMAP closes the summer surpassing its initial objective that was to invoice -50% of last season, placing it finally achieving -23% of income. The resort has generated a total revenue of more than 1.5 million euros , which continues to represent 10% of its annual turnover. Finally, the average customer spending increased to € 35.21, 12.6% more than last year. The opening of this summer season has been a sign of the commitment by EMAP and the Comú de la Massana to generate economic activity at a time of such insecurity. Even having obtained negative operating results during this summer period, Vallnord - Pal Arinsal is undoubtedly an economic engine of the country committed to society.
Regarding occupancy , this summer the resort has received more than 44 thousand customers, mainly from local and local locations such as Andorra, France and Spain. It should be noted that last season, the resort welcomed more than 64 thousand people without taking into account the BTT World Cup and this has been a season of 77 days (26% fewer days than 2019). Despite having decreased in the number of customers, these are very optimistic figures, since they allow us to know that people want to continue enjoying nature and the mountains. But as Vallnord - Pal Arinsal highlights, the most important thing has been to be able to do it safely: during the summer they have been able to learn more about the situation, pay close attention and control to activities and help customers as much as possible. Regarding the day with the most influx , this was the last of the season, a day with free access to the resort, on September 13, receiving a total of 1,361 people at the Bike Park alone , a figure very similar to 2019.
The resort has wanted to continue promoting, as it has been doing during the year, the digital area . Thanks to this, EMAP has noticed an increase of 41% in online sales . For years, they have offered their customers the opportunity to benefit from discounts for the advance purchase of day passes . The fact of reinforcing this strategy has allowed the results in online sales to have increased positively and in this way, it is expected that it will be an area that continues to grow also during the winter. Via online, this summer, the customer has been able to book all the activities and, as a novelty, has also been able to customize their hotel package and ski pass in more detail.
STATION OPENING FOR THE 77 DAYS AND POSITIVE RESULTS IN MOUNTAIN PARK AND SUMMER SNOWPLUS.
The good weather and the desire to do outdoor activities have been reflected in the results of the Mountain Park and the Bike Park. The resort has been able to open 77 days and meet its target of days marked on the calendar. Before the opening, the resort defined, together with other resorts, a security protocol to offer the best sanitary guarantees to customers.
Vallnord Mountain Park, together with the restoration, has been one of the activities of Vallnord - Pal Arinsal where the COVID19 protocol has been worked the most due to the easy contact between people. In total, the alternative activities have obtained a result very similar to last season in terms of turnover. It has been a season where they have been able to learn about the application of these new protocols and actions. Of all the activities, the most requested have been the Buggies, the Parc de Cordes, the Big Zip zip line and the Peke Park. As for Snowplus Verano , the resort's bike and leisure school, has noticed an increase of 23% compared to 2019, a situation that demonstrates the importance of carrying out activities for the little ones safely. This option has been one of the favorites of the summer season since the proposals offered enhanced the activities in the season with outings to the mountains in small groups. Snowplus is already a benchmark in both winter and summer. Despite having obtained very positive figures, EMAP is cautious with these results, since , according to them, it has been a very extraordinary situation where local and proximity tourism has been greatly enhanced.
The restoration was governed by a strict security protocol that, among other measures, established the control of capacity and use of QR codes, completely eliminating the handling of paper. The resort had opened the Expreso restaurants (indoor and terrace) and the Coll de la Botella with two restaurants and terrace, as well as Take Away options that have been well received and will be enhanced to the next winter season. Even noticing a drop in turnover, it has been possible to appreciate a great interest from the customer to enjoy the restoration in nature. Since last year, one of the bets of the summer has been the high mountain dinners , which this season had a forecast of 8 dinners , one more than initially planned. These dinners were made under reservation to be able to control the capacity.
CUSTOMER SATISFACTION OF THE STATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL CARE
With the aim of continuing to improve the quality of services at the resort, every season satisfaction surveys are carried out randomly to customers. Thus, this summer season, Vallnord - Pal Arinsal has received a score of 9/10. The most valued aspects have been hygiene and COVID19 measures, the environmental care of the resort, the state of the Bike Park circuits, the facilities in general and customer service.
As a global performance criterion that applies to all activities and following EMAP's growth strategy, sustainable development and commitment to the environment has been one of the aspects most valued by customers in satisfaction surveys. Thus, this summer season, the Vallnord - Pal Arinsal team has worked to collect rubble, garbage and other materials in storage spaces. It has been possible to clean more than 12 cubic meters of rubble, 15 thousand kilos of iron and 30 cubic meters of wood, among other actions to care for the environment, such as the traditional garbage collection by workers throughout the resort. . Finally, following the established plans, all the resort's map and catalog printouts have been eliminated, while promoting the use of the Ski & Bike APP.
FIRST SUMMER OF THE MANAGEMENT OF THE COMAPEDROSA REFUGE
Located at 2,265 meters and next to Lago de les Truites, Vallnord - Pal Arinsal took over the management of the Comapedrosa Refuge last July, being a new activity for the resort. El Refugio has been open for 73 days, from July 10 to October 12, receiving a very positive response from walkers. The most valued aspects have been the gastronomy and the management by the refuge guards. Regarding the results, in total it has obtained about 500 overnight stays and more than 400 half pensions.
THE STATION IS PREPARING TO OPEN ACCORDING TO EXPECTED NOVEMBER 28TH
It is expected to open on November 28, in 53 days. The resort has already been preparing for winter since September 13, a season that will be accompanied by new health protocols to offer maximum guarantees to internal staff and customers, as well as some novelties aimed at customer satisfaction. A total of 134 days of skiing are planned .
