Can ski lifts be eliminated or at least reduced by artificial intelligence? We will see this winter in Sierra Nevada. Cetursa is willing to implement a system to instructor sensitive points in order to analyze data and thus determine whether the flow of customers and skiers can be better managed.
At the moment a tender has been launched to award the implementation of this system, which Cetursa has valued at about 217,800 euros. With this video analytics system it is expected to be able to control queues, waiting times and other related functionalities to improve the experience of visitors. The objectives pursued by this project are:
➤ Improve the user experience: Increase the attractiveness and degree of digitization of the station, providing information on the level of occupancy of the queues of the ski lifts (displayed on LED screens, mobile applications, websites...).
Optimize the internal management of the resort: Provide early and effective response to different incidents, through the data generated by the Artificial Intelligence of the cameras.
➤ Identify, count and know the number of people in an area to provide security and appropriate indications to crowds.
➤Access control: Proactively instructor and manage access and exit points in real time and from selected locations.
➤ AI-powered video analytics: Enable the integration of real-time alerting capabilities when changes occur in a given area.
All of this data analysis should be accessible in real time to make on-the-spot decisions if necessary. This will enable better management of ski lift operations and even personnel, reinforcing certain points when the need is detected.
With this, it is expected that queues can be reduced both in ski lifts and in other points such as restaurant areas. And thus increase customer satisfaction, which should result in greater loyalty. In other words, to ensure that they return to ski in Sierra Nevada.
Taking into account the weather conditions of a ski resort, which are radically different from those of a city or urban environment, the cameras must take this factor into account.
Therefore, Cetursa requires the video system to have high-definition cameras with the capacity to capture clear images in different conditions, including the changing weather conditions of a ski resort. These devices must be connected to a secure network to transmit real-time data to the central image analysis system. In a first phase, 25 points have been identified for analysis.
In summary, the successful implementation of the objectives detailed in this project will lead to the creation of a highly efficient and customer-oriented Integrated Management System for the Sierra Nevada ski resort.
As Cetursa itself assures:
"This system will allow the collection, analysis and presentation of data in an efficient manner, which will result in substantial benefits for the resort and its visitors. Improved customer service will be evident as accurate and up-to-date waiting times are provided, reducing inconvenience and improving the overall skier experience.
The system will not only provide valuable information for comprehensive resort management, but will also promote customer satisfaction and loyalty by reducing wait times, facilitating car park and providing useful information.
This, in turn, will increase the likelihood that customers will return and recommend the resort to others.
In addition, by following industry "best practices" and maintaining an ability to adapt to unexpected challenges, such as weather issues or capacity constraints, the system will position itself as a valuable and competitive asset for the Sierra Nevada ski resort globally.
In short, this project will not only optimize the management of the ski resort, but will also enhance customer satisfaction and ensure efficient and resilient operation in the face of future challenges, strengthening Sierra Nevada's position as a leading winter sports destination".
